Amazon has pulled the plug on the most unconventional Spider-Man series to date.
A recent update has confirmed that Spider-Noir will not be returning for a second season on Prime Video. While this series is coming to an end, there’s still hope for another Marvel show produced by Sony to make its debut on the platform.
The cancellation was reported on September 4, although no specific reasons were provided by Amazon. It was noted that despite a strong start, Spider-Noir fell out of Prime Video’s top 10 daily rankings more quickly than other hits like Reacher.
However, Amazon seems to remain optimistic about the show’s performance, as they are still interested in developing more series featuring Spider-Man characters that Sony holds the rights to. Although a series centered on Silk was canceled, reports suggest that Amazon and Sony are collaborating on “multiple projects,” including one for an undisclosed character that is “nearing a series order.”
Spider-Noir was definitely an unconventional series, so its lack of a second season isn’t entirely surprising. It featured a 62-year-old lead portraying a Spider-Man variant from Into the Spider-Verse, blending superhero action with a unique narrative style. Prime Video offered viewers the option to watch the series in both black-and-white and color, which added to the post-production workload, and showcased fresh takes on classic Spider-Man villains like Sandman, Tombstone, and Black Cat.
The show was delightfully subversive and quirky, making it a memorable experience. While it’s disappointing that we won’t see more of Spider-Noir, I can still appreciate the fact that this singularly odd season of superhero television was produced. There was no major post-credits scene to leave us hanging, so Spider-Noir wrapped up its story nicely.
If you haven’t checked it out yet, I highly recommend giving Spider-Noir a watch on Prime Video. Personally, I prefer the black-and-white version, but both options are worth your time.
Play it again, Spidey!
