Civilization 7 to Launch New Age and Space Race Expansion in 2024

Firaxis Games and 2K have unveiled the first expansion for Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 during a panel at PAX West. Named Earthrise, this expansion will delve into the space race and civil engineering to tackle natural disasters. Before its release, free updates will introduce a new Age and additional features to enhance the 4X strategy experience.

At the PAX West panel, three significant updates for Civilization 7 were discussed. The first, known as update 1.5.0, is set to launch across all platforms later this month. This update focuses on quality-of-life improvements, including the introduction of an Earth map, the option to start your civilization in historically accurate locations, and enhancements to map generation, diplomatic influence, and the user interface.

The first major update of 2027, titled Arc of Tomorrow, promises to reshape the game by adding a fourth Age: the Atomic Age. This new Age will reflect the modern era, introducing urban architecture, tech and civic trees, social policies, and narrative events that expand gameplay options during this period.

Players will also gain the ability to produce new resources like enriched uranium and create cinematic masterpieces to benefit their civilizations. Notably, the iconic Civilization leader Gandhi will make his debut in the Arc of Tomorrow update. Players can sign up to participate in playtesting this update later this year, ahead of its full release in 2027.

All of this builds up to the launch of Civilization 7: Earthrise in 2027. This paid expansion will introduce cosmic elements to every Age in the game. In the Antiquity and Exploration Ages, players can conduct early research into the solar system and even name celestial bodies they discover. In the Modern Age, players will have the opportunity to launch orbital missions around Earth, while in the Atomic Age, they can establish a space agency, explore the solar system, and uncover resources for use on Earth.

On the more terrestrial side, Earthrise will feature new unit abilities and technologies that can modify terrain, along with new civil engineering structures designed to address natural disasters and global warming. While many details about Earthrise remain under wraps, it appears to be an expansion that will resonate with fans of Civilization: Beyond Earth.

These exciting updates for Civilization 7 are set to roll out over the next year, starting with Update 1.5.0 later this month.
