Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s Ending Should Be Experienced, Not Explained, Say Developers

At a panel during PAX West, game director Naoki Hamaguchi and battle director Teruki Endo shared insights about Cid, Vincent, and the new FITS combat system featured in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. They emphasized their desire for players to experience the game without spoilers or relying on others for explanations.

A presentation slide during the panel highlighted their message: “We hope you experience the climax as something that’s not explained to you by someone else, but rather, as something that belongs to you.”

The battle system in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation distinguishes itself within the trilogy with the introduction of Cid and Vincent, along with the innovative FITS system. Endo elaborated on these elements, showcasing the unique capabilities of each character, the selection of FITS, and their impact on gameplay.

Cid wields a magical lance that can strike multiple foes simultaneously and excels in aerial combat, making him ideal for long-range attacks. Vincent, on the other hand, is equipped with a gun suited for mid-range encounters and can transform into Galian Beast for powerful close-range melee assaults.

The FITS system introduces new traits that significantly alter each character’s combat style. There are four FITS available, each tailored to a specific combat focus. The Warrior FITS enhances offensive play, encouraging aggressive tactics and expanding characters’ signature abilities. The Knight FITS emphasizes defense and party support, allowing players to draw enemy attention while dealing substantial damage to protect allies.

The Black Mage FITS enables rapid casting of powerful elemental spells, while the Summoner FITS unlocks Summon Commands, allowing players to control their Summons and execute devastating coordinated attacks. Players can expect their character’s outfit to change based on the selected FITS, but developers confirmed that outfit skins can be chosen independently of the FITS specialty.

As the panel concluded, Hamaguchi reflected on the long journey fans have taken with the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, which is nearing its end. He urged players to experience the conclusion personally, rather than seeking out spoilers.

“And that’s why, at the very end, rather than having us as developers explain the answers, we would love for players to receive them on their own as their own personal experience. The reunions we’ve built up throughout the trilogy, the bonds with our companions, and the final resolve. All of this leads to this moment — the third title. We truly hope that you all experience these final moments while carrying in your hearts the journey and the feelings that you’ve built up along the way.”

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is set to launch on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series S on April 8, 2027.
