Nintendo reveals the title for the upcoming Legend of Zelda movie.
Eager fans were hoping for a significant update on the upcoming Legend of Zelda movie set to release in April 2027 during Tuesday morning’s Nintendo Direct. Many were anticipating a trailer or perhaps some new images featuring the yet-to-be-announced cast. While Nintendo icon Shigeru Miyamoto did share some details about the film, it wasn’t quite what everyone was hoping for.
The movie will simply be titled The Legend of Zelda. Surprising, right? Miyamoto mentioned that fans would come to understand the absence of a subtitle, hinting that this might be an origin story. The title reveal followed an emotional orchestral opening, making the announcement feel both anticlimactic and amusing. Miyamoto assured fans that more information would be shared in the future.
Previously, Nintendo had only released stills from the fantasy video game adaptation, featuring Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. Since then, industry sources have confirmed the casting of Australian actor Uli Latukefu as Ganondorf, Dichen Lachman as Impa, and Yvonne Strahovski in an undisclosed role. There are also rumors that Sam Neill, known for his role in Jurassic Park, may appear as the King of Hyrule, potentially marking his final performance on the big screen. With such a talented cast, the film is being produced by Shigeru Miyamoto in collaboration with veteran producer Avi Arad.
The movie wrapped filming in April 2026, but since then, details have been scarce. The only substantial update came from director Wes Ball, who indicated that the film would have a more “grounded” and “real” feel. With the new trailer, audiences will get a clearer picture of how well the movie embodies the essence of the beloved RPG series.
While the film is generating excitement, fans should also check out the full Nintendo Direct. The 30-minute showcase was packed with Zelda news, including the first look at gameplay for the Ocarina of Time remake and details about the new Nintendo Switch 2 console, which will launch alongside the game.
