Jackbox Launches Standalone ‘XL’ Version of Fan-Favorite Fakin’ It Party Game
Fakin’ It is the standout party game from Jackbox Party Pack 3 that continues to capture the hearts of players even a decade after its debut. With a dedicated community returning year after year for some lighthearted fun, it’s no wonder that Jackbox decided to spin off Fakin’ It into its own standalone title. Get ready to sharpen your deception skills for the release of Fakin’ It XL on November 12, 2026.
Social deduction games have thrived over the past ten years, and Fakin’ It quickly became a fan favorite upon its 2016 release. Players face a series of questions that they must answer either through gestures or text, while the designated faker has no idea what the actual question is until it appears on screen. Their goal? To trick their friends into believing they’re providing genuine answers.
From personal experience, firing up a Jackbox Party Pack with friends is always a blast, whether you’re playing locally or online. However, the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted that Fakin’ It wasn’t ideally suited for remote play, as reading facial expressions is key to identifying the faker. Fakin’ It XL aims to address this with some exciting updates. According to an interview with Jackbox Games’ Chief Marketing Officer, Brooke Hofer, each player will now have an avatar that reflects their reactions to prompts, making it easier for others to gauge responses during livestreams.
Fakin’ It XL will also introduce two new secret tasks designed for online play. In Emojional Damage, players will answer a question while the faker receives a general emoji category. While everyone else must choose the perfect emoji, the faker will need to concoct a convincing lie to blend in. The second task, Thumb Luck, involves players giving their opinions on various topics with a thumbs up or down. The faker, unaware of the topic, might find themselves in a tricky spot trying to justify their stance on something like “Dogs in Costumes.”
Hofer emphasized that all the beloved elements of Fakin’ It are back, just on a larger scale. “The best part of Fakin’ It is the unexpected and hilariously silly things you learn about your fellow players along the way. The most memorable rounds are when you can argue that more than one person could be the Faker, leading to some surprising defenses.”
Fakin’ It XL will support up to eight players and launches on November 12, 2026, for Steam, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5, with plans for availability on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 later this year.
