Highlights from the September Nintendo Direct Showcase
Nintendo has hosted two Direct showcases this week. The first focused on celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, while the second provided a broader look at upcoming titles for the Switch 2. If you missed the live stream, you can catch the VOD below, or just dive into the highlights.
First up, we got a fresh glimpse of Monster Hunter Wilds, set to launch on Switch 2 on December 4, complete with all previous updates and local co-op support. Following that, the Ascendance expansion is slated for release next year.
In case you haven’t seen enough of it already, we were treated to another sneak peek of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, arriving on Switch 2 (and other platforms) on April 8. Additionally, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion is shadow dropping on Switch 2 today.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is making its way to Switch 2, bringing along all expansion pass content and a new Calamity Mode difficulty setting. Players who own the game on Switch 1 will receive a discount for the Switch 2 upgrade, which launches on February 25.
The popular hide-and-seek game from Steam is also making its debut on Switch 2 today.
Next, we got a look at Pokopia’s upcoming fashion-themed expansion, allowing players to customize their character Ditto and the Pokémon residing in their towns. New critters like Snubbel and Braixen will also be added, with the update launching later this year.
Star Fox is receiving a free update that introduces a local split-screen battle mode and new stages, set to arrive on September 29. Plus, Star Fox Adventures will be added to the GameCube Classics catalog later today.
We saw quick glimpses of several titles, including The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s remaster, which is coming to Switch 2 with mouse controls on September 29, ahead of the 2027 Songs of the Past expansion. It seems this Direct is leaning heavily on classic titles. Pikmin 4 is getting a Switch 2 edition that incorporates voice commands via the system’s built-in mic, along with a new Dandori Academy mode featuring limited-time challenges for item gathering, playable only on weekends. A total of 72 stages will be released over time, with the game launching on November 12.
In a shift to a different genre, the horror adventure game Onyx: The Dark Grip will utilize touch controls in handheld mode, creating a unique experience for players as the protagonist perceives these interactions as paranormal phenomena. This title is set to arrive on Switch 2 next year.
Another classic making its way to Switch 2 is Xenoblade Chronicles 3, which will introduce a new mode and hero named Shimmer, who has the ability to foresee future events in battles. This port is scheduled for December 3.
From the developers of Overcooked, we have Stage Fright, a charming yet spooky puzzle game coming to both Switches next year.
The next expansion for the Disney town-builder Disney Dreamlight Valley is titled The Keepsake Sea and is set for a November release.
Ondeh Ondeh Kaya’s Tasty Tale is another world-builder that appears to incorporate rhythmic platforming elements.
The Lego-based open-world superhero game is finally making its way to Switch 2 on September 18.
Kirby Air Riders is receiving a small free update that will refresh some in-game areas and complete its amiibo figure collection.
The challenging rock climbing game Cairn is set to launch on Switch 2 in early 2027, with a demo available today.

Lastly, we have Metroid Ravenous, a new 2D action platformer featuring Samus Aran, who seems to have gained the ability to absorb the life force of her enemies. This title is set to launch on Switch 2 on January 28, with amiibo available on launch day.

Next up is Eternal Anima, an old-school fantasy RPG from Marvelous, featuring a future-sight mechanic that allows players to anticipate enemy attacks. This game is set to arrive on Switch 2 on March 4.
Now, this caught my attention: we got a new look at Danganronpa 2×2, showcasing the murder mystery remake and its new “Slayhem” route, which alters the game’s various cases and introduces new mechanics, some from 2017’s Danganronpa V3, along with others that are brand new. There seems to be a mysterious new student as well. The game launches on January 14.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is coming to Switch 2 in time for the game’s third season pass, with the digital version launching on October 22 and physical copies arriving in January. The Metal Slug Ultimate Collection, featuring 10 Metal Slug games, is also set for both Switches next year. Card battler Yu-Gi-Oh! Hell Is Us will launch on October 8, and Guardians of the Galaxy Encore Edition will bring the underappreciated Marvel game to the system on November 5.
Give me a moment to catch my breath after all that.
Alright, we also got another look at Persona 4 Revival, the upcoming remake of Persona 4, which will launch on Switch 2 on May 20, slightly later than its February release on other systems. Persona 6 is also confirmed for Switch 2, though no release date has been announced.
To wrap up the show, we were introduced to a new Kirby 3D platformer, featuring a more open world for Kirby to explore. He’ll encounter new friends, devour new foes, wield a sword, and don an intricately detailed green hat reminiscent of a certain hero. The trailer hints at Kirby discovering that his world may be artificial, Truman Show-style, with a larger world beyond, hence the game’s title. It’s set to launch in Spring 2027.
And just in, we’ve received word that Mario has been found dead in a ditch in Miami.
