Kirby Wields a Massive Sword in His Upcoming Open-World Quest

Kirby and the World Beyond was just revealed during today’s Nintendo Direct, set to launch in spring 2027. This new title promises an expansive open-world adventure for our favorite pink hero, featuring a massive sword that lets him break through the sky.

The trailer showcases Kirby dashing through a vibrant open world, making his signature “pop pop pop” sounds while engaging in classic Kirby antics like gobbling up enemies, battling King Dedede, and donning various hats. At one point, he dramatically smashes through the sky, unveiling a realm beyond. A mysterious purple figure appears, likely the antagonist, and presents Kirby with a colossal magical sword, which he uses to tear open the sky and venture into the unknown. While much of this new area resembles his familiar world, there are intriguing sights in the distance, including a bizarre structure and a mechanical giant snake.

It seems Kirby is embarking on a journey reminiscent of The Truman Show!

This marks the first major new entry in the Kirby series since Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which introduced fully 3D gameplay. Although we saw Kirby’s Dream Buffet and Kirby’s Return to Dreamland Deluxe in 2022 and 2023, respectively, Kirby and the World Beyond appears to expand on that foundation, offering even more open, non-linear exploration. It looks like the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to provide Kirby with a larger playground than ever before.

Details about the game remain scarce, but with Kirby’s 35th anniversary approaching next year, we can expect to see plenty more of our pink hero leading up to 2027.
