New Look Unveils the Battle-Worn Heroes of the Street Fighter Movie

Street Fighter is making its live-action comeback this fall after a 17-year break. Capcom and Legendary are revamping the nearly 40-year-old franchise, promising a more intense and action-packed experience, featuring plenty of Blanka. A fresh glimpse at the film reveals our heroes looking pretty battered after facing off in Bison’s brutal tournament, showcasing a raw and gritty side of Chun-Li, Ryu, Ken, and Dan.

Director Kitao Sakurai, known for his work on Twisted Metal and The Eric Andre Show, is fully embracing the essence of the video games in this adaptation. The latest footage captures the nostalgic feel of the early Street Fighter arcade games, reminiscent of the post-match win screens. With a film packed with fan-centric Easter eggs, these battle-worn characters are just one highlight.

Set in 1993, the same year Super Street Fighter 2 hit arcades, the story revolves around estranged martial artists Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo), who have some serious issues to resolve. They come together when Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the World Warrior Tournament, which hides a sinister plot beneath its surface.

The cast features Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, and Callina Liang as Chun-Li, alongside Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i as Akuma, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, Mel Jarnson as Cammy, Orville Peck as Vega, Olivier Richters as Zangief, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Eric André as Don Sauvage, Rayna Vallandingham as Juli, Alexander Volkanovski as Joe, and Kyle Mooney as Marvin.

Street Fighter hits theaters on Oct. 16 and was filmed for IMAX screenings.

This marks the first new live-action Street Fighter film since 2009’s Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, following the original 1994 adaptation. It looks like Ryu and Ken have some unresolved tensions to work through.
