Producer Confirms Authenticity of Leaked New Twin Peaks Release

In early September, a leak from Steam unveiled achievements for several upcoming games, spilling the beans on highly anticipated titles like Kingdom Hearts 4 and Persona 6, as well as Judas. Among the revelations were also some unannounced projects, including a new Avengers game, a potential Stellaris expansion or spinoff, a remaster of Shrek 2, and, surprisingly, a video game based on Twin Peaks.

The leaked information for the Twin Peaks game included an achievement named “Welcome to Twin Peaks,” with the description “Reach the Double R Diner.” For fans of the series, the Double R Diner is a familiar spot, owned by Norma Jennings and featured prominently throughout the show.

While skepticism surrounds the authenticity and future release of this game, a Reddit post has sparked additional speculation. A user on r/twinpeaks claimed to have contacted Sabrina S. Sutherland, a producer from Twin Peaks season 3 and a long-time collaborator with David Lynch, about the game’s legitimacy. Allegedly, she responded, “There is a game that will be coming out eventually.” While it seems unlikely that Sutherland would confirm an unannounced project to a random social media user, the gaming world is no stranger to surprises.

Reactions from fans have been mixed. Many took a humorous approach, suggesting outlandish ideas like a bike riding simulator featuring James or a Cooking Mama-style game where Shelly and Norma brew coffee next to a corpse. Some expressed excitement at the prospect of a studio like Remedy taking on the project, while others voiced skepticism, pointing out that the niche has already been explored by Twin Peaks-inspired titles like Deadly Premonition and Thimbleweed Park. One user wisely noted, “All good things come to an end, and that’s part of what makes them good.”

Originally airing from 1990 to 1991, Twin Peaks saw a revival on Showtime from May 21 to September 3, 2017. This third season, titled Twin Peaks: The Return, served as a fitting conclusion to the iconic surrealist series, with Lynch directing all 18 episodes and co-writing them with series co-creator Mark Frost. The final season was as bizarre and unsettling as fans expected, ending on a classic Twin Peaks cliffhanger.

While the desire for more content is strong, it might be wise to let the series rest. With the passing of series co-creator and legendary filmmaker David Lynch last year, the idea of continuing without his direct involvement feels challenging. In 2019, Showtime released a short Twin Peaks VR game that didn’t quite capture the audience’s attention.

Alongside Judas, Persona 6, Metro 2039, and more.
