A remake of Professor Layton’s original Nintendo DS adventure is on the way.

Next year marks the 20th anniversary of the beloved Professor Layton series, and to celebrate, Level-5 is remaking Professor Layton and the Curious Village.

The announcement came with a teaser trailer shared on their YouTube channel. Originally launched in 2007 on the Nintendo DS, Professor Layton and the Curious Village reached a global audience the following year. This game introduced players to the series’ signature puzzle-solving gameplay and the iconic duo of Professor Layton and his apprentice, Luke Triton. It received widespread acclaim at launch and has since spawned a franchise that remains popular nearly two decades later.

In the game, Layton and Luke venture into the village of St. Mystere, searching for the elusive Golden Apple. A recently deceased baron has declared that whoever discovers this mysterious artifact will inherit his fortune, prompting the villagers to assist the duo while challenging them with a variety of puzzles.

While Level-5 hasn’t provided a specific release date beyond the 2027 window, the original game debuted on February 15, 2007, hinting at a possible February launch for the remake. It has been confirmed for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC.

The remake appears to follow the same artistic style as the upcoming Professor Layton and the New World of Steam. The teaser site showcases the remake’s new 3D graphics and high resolution. Although not officially confirmed, there are speculations that Professor Layton and the Curious Village may incorporate generative AI, as Level-5 has expressed support for this technology in game development. Professor Layton and the New World of Steam will be the first original title in the series since 2013, set to release in 2026.
