Special Mewtwo Card for 30th Anniversary Celebration to Be Released Separately

The highly anticipated release of the Pokémon Trading Card Game’s 30th anniversary set is just around the corner, and fans eager to catch them all have one more item to add to their must-have list. Beyond securing pre-orders, braving overnight lines, and dodging scalpers, dedicated collectors should keep an eye out for a special Mewtwo card that won’t be included in any standard 30th anniversary products.

This exclusive Mewtwo promo card, illustrated by the artist Nagisimo, will be available at select U.S. retailers.

To snag this card, you’ll need to spend at least $15 at any of those stores starting October 2, 2026. Coincidentally, this is also the release date for the second wave of 30th anniversary products, so you might just be able to catch two Pidgey with one Poké Ball. This second wave features Day and Night themed mini tins, each containing two packs, a sticker sheet, and an art card. If you collect enough tins, you could even spell out “anniversary” with the Unown featured in the background. Additionally, October 2 marks the launch of the official Booster Bundles, which include six packs and are widely regarded as the best value in the entire lineup.

As with any limited-time release, it’s wise to plan ahead. During the 2026 Worlds promo, when select retailers distributed a San Francisco-themed Pikachu card, many stores quickly ran out of stock. The competition for this Mewtwo card may be particularly fierce at retailers like GameStop or Best Buy, where collectors are likely to be hunting for the rest of the 30th anniversary products.

While the broader set does feature a Mewtwo card, it’s a Future Rare that will be tough to pull from a pack. The Nagisimo card could be the next best option for fans.

The first wave of 30th anniversary products drops on September 16, and excitement is expected to be high; be sure to check in with your local card shop about their release plans.
