Netflix is set to launch an animated series based on Diablo.
It’s the kickoff of BlizzCon 2026, and that means one thing: big announcements are on the horizon. Johanna Faries, President of Blizzard Entertainment, just took the stage to unveil that an animated series based on Diablo is in the works with Netflix.
“We’ve been diligently seeking the best creative partnerships to expand our storytelling,” Faries shared. “While there are thrilling developments across all our major franchises, today we’re excited to spotlight one particular project.”
“We’re delighted to announce that we’re developing a new animated series for Diablo with Netflix. As a passionate Diablo player myself, and someone who revels in the dark allure of Sanctuary, I can’t wait to see this project come to fruition.”
That’s all the details available for now. There’s no release date announced yet, nor do we know which animation studio will be bringing Netflix’s Diablo series to life. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a potential collaboration between Xbox and Netflix.
About a month after Asha Sharma took the helm at Xbox, she reportedly received a nod of support from Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters. Sharma and Peters apparently “brainstormed ideas” for a possible partnership, which included the idea of bundling Netflix with Xbox Game Pass into a single subscription.
Additionally, in July 2026, Sharma laid out plans to enhance Xbox’s presence in transmedia “across film, television, consumer products, sponsorship, live experiences, and forge new partnerships globally, including in China.” This strategy was likely influenced by the massive success of Amazon’s Fallout TV series.
It certainly seems like the Netflix Diablo series is another step in this transmedia-focused direction. Given Sharma’s discussions with Netflix’s co-CEO, it wouldn’t be surprising if one of the other “exciting things” Faries hinted at in her Diablo announcement is another upcoming collaboration with Netflix.
