Meet Doctrine: Overwatch’s Exciting New Hero

Overwatch has unveiled its latest hero, Doctrine, at BlizzCon 2026, introducing a vampire-themed support character with a high skill ceiling. This new addition to the Support class brings an innovative mechanic that allows him to “Infuse” his weapon and abilities, providing strategic power boosts during crucial moments in gameplay.

During our first hands-on session with Doctrine at BlizzCon, we explored the full range of abilities from this former ally of Doomfist. While his kit has some complexity, he’s incredibly enjoyable to play, appealing to aggressive healers, Reaper fans who find themselves in support roles, and those with a penchant for the darker aesthetic.

Here’s a breakdown of Doctrine’s complete kit, based on the version of Overwatch available at BlizzCon 2026:

Doctrine wields the Eternal Scepter, a weapon that operates similarly to the primary arms of Juno, Ana, and Jetpack Cat, allowing him to heal allies while dealing damage to foes with a unified fire mechanic. This design simplifies his kit, enabling players to Infuse their shots for added impact. Shrouded Momentum serves as Doctrine’s equivalent to Reaper’s Wraith Form, while Invigorating Drones provides an alternative healing method.

Doctrine’s Perks present some intriguing choices, allowing players to enhance specific healing types at level 2, along with a unique option for an overall hit point reduction in exchange for increased healing from the Eternal Scepter. With a lengthy cooldown on Infuse, players will face tough decisions regarding which level 3 perk to pursue in the heat of battle.

Players can try out Doctrine during a limited-time trial this weekend, with the hero officially joining the Overwatch roster in season 5, set to launch in October. Doctrine will also arrive alongside a new map at the start of season 5.
