Apple is said to be developing game controllers for the iPhone.
Mark Gurman has revealed that Apple is working on two game controllers for the iPhone, likely to be branded under Beats. Speculation about Apple’s entry into the game controller market has been buzzing for a while, but recent findings from macOS 26.7 code have confirmed the existence of these first-party devices.
Although the code was discovered in macOS rather than iOS, Gurman asserts that these controllers are intended for iPhones. He also mentions that the initiative is being spearheaded by Beats executives. Apple often leverages its subsidiary brand to explore new product categories and offer competitive pricing without affecting its premium Apple image.
As Gurman points out, Beats has already ventured into selling iPhone cases and USB-C cables that diverge from Apple’s typical design philosophy. A game controller fits well within this framework. To appeal to a wider audience, it needs to be affordably priced, which may involve using less expensive materials and finishes than those usually found in Apple products. Additionally, the gaming culture and lifestyle align seamlessly with the Beats brand.
