GTA 6 Actor Unveils Surprise Details Ahead of Rockstar

Fans have caught glimpses of several characters from Grand Theft Auto 6 in trailers and the extended preview on Netflix, but as is typical in the gaming world, Rockstar Games has kept tight-lipped about the voice actors behind these roles. However, one actor has jumped the gun on the marketing front, revealing his involvement in the game — and you might already recognize his voice from the trailers.

At the BAFTA TV Tea Party, Stephen Root was asked about the buzz surrounding his potential role in GTA 6. He confirmed, “Yeah, you’re going to see me in there. I think from the first rollout of GTA 6 that they were doing almost a year ago, they had my character in there, and there were too many people who knew me from King of the Hill and my voice.” Root has been a staple of King of the Hill since its inception, voicing Bill Dauterive, Hank Hill’s neighbor, and Buck Strickland, Hank’s boss. “So, I think that secret kind of got divulged then.”

Root is currently nominated for an Emmy for his role as Wyck Crawford in Widow’s Bay. Beyond his work on King of the Hill, he’s also well-known for his performances in the ’90s TV series NewsRadio and the film Office Space.

In GTA 6, Root voices Brian Heder, described as a “classic drug runner from the golden age of smuggling” in the Florida Keys. Brian allows Jason, one of the game’s protagonists, to live rent-free at one of his properties, but there are conditions. Jason must assist with “local shakedowns” for Brian.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to launch on November 19, marking 13 years since the release of GTA 5 in 2013. The game will be available digitally on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, taking inspiration from Miami, featuring a nudist camp, and even getting its own special PS5 controller, which scalpers are already targeting.
