Lies of P leak hints at the future direction of the series.
Lies of P has emerged as one of the standout non-FromSoftware Soulslike titles, achieving over 4 million sales since its launch in 2023. A tantalizing post-credits scene hinted at the future direction of the series, and a recent trademark filing has strongly suggested which classic tale the sequel might draw from.
**Spoilers for Lies of P’s post-credits scene follow.**
In the post-credits scene, it’s revealed that the NPC known as Giangio is actually Philippus Paracelsus, who played a significant role in the events that transpired in Krat. He mentions needing to find someone named Dorothy, and the scene shifts to a figure traversing the rooftops of Krat in ruby slippers, who then clicks her heels together.
The nods to The Wizard of Oz are unmistakable, and it seems that developers Neowiz and Nough (formerly Round8 Studio) are poised to explore this connection further. Neowiz has recently filed a trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office for a game titled Wonders of O, which strongly hints at an Oz-inspired sequel to Lies of P.
Similar to how Lies of P draws from Carlo Collodi’s The Adventures of Pinocchio without explicitly naming its protagonist “Pinocchio,” the sequel may be inspired by L. Frank Baum’s Oz stories without directly labeling its setting as “Oz.” Given that Dorothy is heading to Krat in the post-credits scene, it’s possible the sequel might not even take place in Oz, but rather bring characters from Oz into the world of Krat. Details about the sequel remain under wraps for now.
The developers confirmed that a sequel to Lies of P was in development shortly after the original game’s release, but a launch window has yet to be announced. Before that, they released the impressive Overture prequel expansion, which introduced much-needed difficulty options. Lies of P has also made its way to the Nintendo Switch 2, complete with DLC.
