Next Jujutsu Kaisen release faces significant delay.
The creators of the popular game Vampire Survivors have announced an exciting crossover: poncle is working on a Jujutsu Kaisen game. Titled Jujutsu Kaisen Rumble: Survivaton, it was first revealed this June with a planned release in 2026. However, the latest trailer has confirmed a delay to 2027, coinciding with the anticipated release of the next season of the anime.
According to its Steam page, Jujutsu Kaisen Rumble: Survivaton is described as “a survivors royale where you battle cursed spirits, rivals, and grow stronger throughout the match. Outscore other contestants on your way to the final showdown. Defeat enemies, build your loadout, unlock rule-changing effects, and fight to become the last player standing victorious.” The game will feature online play for up to eight players, along with a solo mode.
The gameplay seems to blend the escalating roguelike mechanics of Vampire Survivors with the elimination style of a battle royale. This setup mirrors the ongoing Culling Games arc from the anime, where powerful sorcerers engage in a deadly tournament orchestrated by a deranged villain. Players can introduce new “rules” to disrupt their opponents once they reach 100 points, just like in the anime.
The latest trailer highlights several playable characters, including Yuji, Nobara, Megumi, Maki, Choso, Gojo, and Yuta, with a promise of over 20 fighters in total. It also features various bosses like Jogo, Geto, and the ever-frustrating Mahito, who can appear mid-match to ramp up the chaos.
Players can activate unique cursed techniques for different characters by filling a bar on the left side of the screen, allowing them to clear waves of spirits. Defeating regular enemies earns experience points, which can be used to upgrade characters and unlock new skills for the round.
While Jujutsu Kaisen Rumble: Survivaton may not stand out at first glance, the involvement of the studio behind Vampire Survivors suggests it could become another addictive title. Here’s hoping the delay allows poncle the time needed to craft something truly special.
Gojo and his allies are gearing up for an exhilarating battle royale on the Switch!
