Xbox Game Pass Welcomes a Final Impressive Lineup Ahead of Upcoming Changes
Xbox Game Pass is gearing up for an impressive second wave of titles this September, featuring heavy hitters like Ninja Gaiden 4, Dune: Awakening, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Minecraft Dungeons 2, and Gears of War: E-Day joining the subscription lineup.
This influx of games comes at a pivotal moment for Game Pass. Recently, Microsoft has begun tweaking some of the features that made the service so attractive, including implementing monthly limits on cloud gaming. Additionally, there are whispers that Xbox might take a more drastic step next year by eliminating day-one releases from Game Pass altogether.
For the time being, though, subscribers can look forward to some exciting new additions.
Here’s the rundown of what’s coming to Game Pass:
Several of these notable titles will also be available through Game Pass Premium, which is significant given the recent changes to the service. Ninja Gaiden 4, Dune: Awakening, and Black Ops 6 will be accessible via Premium, while Gears of War: E-Day and Minecraft Dungeons 2 will launch on day one for Ultimate and PC Game Pass users.
The variety in this lineup is impressive. Routine offers a first-person sci-fi horror experience set on a deserted lunar base, while Ultimate Sheep Raccoon is a multiplayer bike-racing game where players create obstacle-filled courses. Dune: Awakening provides both multiplayer and single-player open-world survival gameplay, and Ninja Gaiden 4 revives the beloved hack-and-slash franchise.
As always, it’s worth noting that the Game Pass library is in constant flux. Microsoft has announced that eight games will be leaving the service on September 30:
This ongoing rotation is becoming increasingly intriguing as Microsoft continues to refine what subscribers receive.
Earlier this month, Xbox revealed that cloud gaming will see monthly playtime limits starting in November. Ultimate subscribers will have 15 hours per month, Premium subscribers will get 10 hours, and Essential subscribers will have five hours. Microsoft stated that these changes are a response to rising costs and increased demand for cloud gaming.
There’s also a potentially significant shift on the horizon. A recent report suggests that Microsoft might stop offering new games on Game Pass from day one sometime between February and April 2027. The report also hints at the possibility of cloud gaming becoming a separate paid add-on and the introduction of new Game Pass options.
While Microsoft has not confirmed these rumored changes for 2027, they should be taken with caution. If the day-one release claim holds true, it would represent a major shift for a service that has thrived on providing subscribers immediate access to new titles.
For now, however, that promise remains intact. Gears of War: E-Day is set to launch on Game Pass on day one this October, and Minecraft Dungeons II will follow suit later this month. So, while Game Pass may be tightening its grip in some areas, the latest lineup suggests that major releases are still very much part of the equation.
Overlay maps will also be in Diablo 5 from day one.
