HBO Confirms Release Window for Season 2 of Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

With the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and the third season of House of the Dragon set to air this year, Game of Thrones enthusiasts might worry about a dry spell in 2027. While a stage play about The Mad King is scheduled for London next year, what about the small screen? Fortunately, HBO has just dropped some thrilling news regarding the future of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

In a recent conversation, HBO’s Casey Bloys provided updates on various shows following a successful Emmy night. He confirmed that the eagerly awaited second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is slated for release in the first half of 2027. Given that the show debuted in January 2026, fans will only have to wait about a year and a half between seasons, which is quite reasonable in today’s landscape of high-quality television.

This timeline is even quicker than House of the Dragon, which has seen a two-year gap between its seasons. Fans of the original Game of Thrones will remember that it typically released a season each year (with the exception of the two-year wait for the final season), so it’s refreshing to see A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms returning to that rhythm. Meanwhile, House of the Dragon is gearing up to start filming its fourth season next spring, likely pushing its release to 2028.

The first season of this prequel series covered the entirety of George R.R. Martin’s 1998 novella, The Hedge Knight. The upcoming second season will adapt The Sworn Sword, the next novella chronicling the adventures of Ser Dunk the Tall and his squire Egg, who is revealed to be Aegon Targaryen V, the future king of Westeros.

If the series progresses to a third season, it will tackle the final novella, The Mystery Knight. Showrunner Ira Parker has mentioned that Martin is working on a fourth book, but its release remains uncertain. Should the show continue beyond season three, it may need to create original content, similar to what HBO’s Game of Thrones did in its later seasons. For now, fans can breathe easy knowing that season two is officially on the way.
