Exciting New PS5 Features Launched, Highlighting Top Trending Games

A fresh system software update has just dropped for PlayStation 5, giving players a better glimpse into what’s hot on the platform. With the introduction of new top-10 and trending sections, it’s now easier than ever to see what everyone else is diving into.

The PS5 system software update version 26.06-14.00.00 also enables Enhanced PSSR Image Quality by default for PS5 Pro users. As always, there’s the usual boost in system performance and stability that comes with these updates.

One of the standout features is the new speaker indicator. Players can navigate to the “select more” section in the control center to activate “Display Who’s Speaking.” This feature will highlight the username of whoever is talking during party chats, and you can choose where it appears on the screen.

The update has also introduced the “Most Popular Games of the Week” widget, which is a game-changer!

– Select Top 10 to view the week’s most popular games.
– Select Trending Now to see which games and modes are currently gaining traction.

This feature is tailored to your region, so you’ll see what’s popular where you are.

More importantly, two new widgets have made their way to the Welcome Hub. “Trending Now” showcases the top ten multiplayer games or modes that are currently “surging in popularity.” This aims to highlight new releases or older titles that have recently received significant content updates and are drawing in players.

The second widget is a straightforward “Top 10” list of the most popular games in your area over the past week. It’s not clear if this list refreshes weekly or continuously, but it marks the first time such a feature has been implemented on PlayStation.

Previously, players only had access to the top sellers on the PlayStation Store to gauge what was trending. It’ll be intriguing to see if the usual heavyweights that dominate the sales charts also lead these new lists, or if this update actually enhances game discoverability on the platform. There’s still plenty of room for console makers to improve how players find games they might enjoy beyond just sifting through the latest releases.
