Customize Valheim Sign Text for Color-Coded Storage Chests Without Mods!

While I was in the middle of venting about my new wall of storage chests in Valheim, a fellow Viking casually reminded me, “You know you can color code those signs, right?” Of course, I knew that—well, I thought I did, but I completely overlooked this handy feature that doesn’t even require a mod. If you’ve also forgotten, let me refresh your memory with a quick tip on how to organize your Valheim storage using colorful text codes for your signs.

In Valheim, you can change the text color of a sign using markup codes. If you have even a basic understanding of traditional HTML, you’ll find that you don’t need to close these style commands. Just remember that there’s a limited amount of text space on each sign, so keep your codes concise.

You can use any 6-digit hex value for your colors, so check out a color code calculator to find more options, or refer to the table from Unity. It’s a pretty straightforward process, but here are a few extra tips for changing colors:

Other markup attributes from the Unity guide also work in Valheim. You can combine a few for text styles like larger italics, vibrant bolds, or even extra spacing and alignment.

You can enhance your Valheim signs even more by incorporating Unicode characters. I find a Unicode chart to be quite useful, but not all characters will work, so I’ve included a few examples below for your reference.

Feel free to use multiple codes when customizing your text. I’ve put together a few examples for you to experiment with. Just remember to adjust the variables as needed and keep an eye on the 50-character limit to avoid awkwardly cut-off words or floating text.
