Twitch CEO Confirms GTA 6 Will Feature Multiplayer Mode
Among the many questions swirling around the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6, one of the biggest concerns for fans is whether they’ll be able to enjoy Rockstar’s upcoming Florida life-simulation game with friends. Back in June, when Rockstar unveiled the pricing and preorder details for GTA 6, they made it clear that the game is primarily a “single-player experience.” However, considering the massive revenue generated by GTA Online, it’s hard to believe that some form of multiplayer won’t make its way into the new title.
Interestingly, confirmation of multiplayer for GTA 6 seems to have come from an unexpected source. In a recent interview, the CEO of Twitch, Dan Clancy, discussed GTA 6 in detail and mentioned that Rockstar plans to launch the game’s multiplayer component “next year.”
Clancy noted that he had spent considerable time with Rockstar discussing how to effectively engage creators on the Twitch platform. He pointed out that Twitch is likely to see a significant increase in viewership when GTA 6 drops, but he hinted that the numbers could soar even higher when multiplayer launches the following year.
It’s uncertain whether Clancy accidentally revealed information he wasn’t meant to share, but the timing of his comments is intriguing. GTA 6 is set to release on November 19, 2026, which means if Clancy’s timeline is accurate, multiplayer could arrive as soon as January 2027. For context, GTA Online was released just two weeks after GTA 5, while multiplayer for Red Dead Redemption 2 took about seven months to arrive. Regardless, it seems unlikely that Rockstar will cease support for the current GTA Online anytime soon.
As of now, the developer has not commented on Clancy’s revelation. In other news, GTA 6 will also see a physical release, featuring a vinyl and CD soundtrack, available on the same day as the game.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
