Claude Code Revamps Projects for Cloud-Based Management of Multiple AI Agents
The updated projects feature in Claude Code allows users to manage multiple agents within a single environment, complete with shared memory, objectives, and a library of files and artifacts. Much like Grok Bot and other AI agent management tools, each project operates with “threads” that execute various tasks simultaneously, all overseen by a “coordinator.”
Behind the scenes, each thread functions as a separate Claude Code cloud session, working on its own branch and version of the repository. The coordinator ensures everything stays organized, but if multiple threads attempt to modify the same code, any conflicts are handled as merge conflicts, similar to standard pull requests. Additionally, threads can break down their assigned tasks into smaller components using subagents, loops, and workflows, which helps expedite the completion of larger projects.
Users have the option to engage with each thread separately or keep track of updates through the main project chat. Initially, threads operate in the cloud, but support for local tools and code is expected to arrive soon. The enhanced projects feature is currently in beta for select subscribers, with plans to roll out access to all Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise users, as well as Cowork and standard Claude chats, in the near future.
