Brad Pitt Returns for World War Z Sequel After 13 Years

Brad Pitt is gearing up for another round of zombie chaos. Recently, it was confirmed that he will reprise his role in a sequel to *World War Z*, the 2013 film that raked in over $540 million globally. Edward Berger, known for his work on *All Quiet on the Western Front* and *Conclave*, is set to direct.

This sequel marks a reunion for Pitt and Berger, who previously collaborated on *The Riders*, which has just wrapped filming. Reports indicate that Pitt suggested the idea of a *World War Z* sequel to Berger during the production of *The Riders*. By the end of filming, Berger was on board, and the studio has since finalized agreements with both to move forward with the project.

As of now, Paramount has not revealed any specifics about the sequel’s storyline. The original *World War Z* was based on Max Brooks’ 2006 novel and was initially followed by plans for a sequel after its box office success, even setting a 2017 release date. However, like many projects in Hollywood, it fell into development limbo and was ultimately scrapped.

At CinemaCon in April, Paramount hinted at the sequel’s development but provided no further details. The studio is reportedly focusing on *World War Z* along with *Top Gun* and *Star Trek* as key franchises for future films.

With horror films performing well at the box office this year, such as *Backrooms* and *Obsession*, it makes sense for Paramount to breathe new life into a well-known horror franchise. However, the zombie genre can be unpredictable, as seen with *28 Years Later: The Bone Temple*, which failed to turn a profit. A word of caution for Paramount: releasing the next *World War Z* in January might not be the best strategy. Meanwhile, *Resident Evil* is currently in theaters and is expected to benefit from positive reviews, potentially leading to a strong box office showing this weekend.
