Wolverine’s latest update addresses its most debated feature.
In contrast to the usual blockbuster PlayStation titles, the response to Marvel’s Wolverine has been notably subdued. A primary concern among players is the game’s tendency to overly guide them on where to go next. To tackle this, Insomniac Games has reduced the visibility of scent trails in the first major post-launch update.
On the night of September 18, Insomniac rolled out hotfix v1.001.005 for Marvel’s Wolverine. According to a support page, this update not only resolves several crash-related issues but also “adjusts the presentation of the Scent Trails and Audio Sense indicators, including reduced opacity to make these visuals less intense.”
Players quickly noticed the changes. A post from a PlayStation influencer highlighted the difference: the scent trail, which previously appeared as a bright blue line that clashed with the game’s realistic environments, has now been softened to look more cloud-like and less defined, while still guiding players effectively.
The patch notes also hint that the studio is “continuing to evaluate ways to further improve Sense in the game, including exploring toggleable options for a future update.” This suggests that a feature to completely disable scent trails is on the horizon. Insomniac’s director of communications and marketing previously indicated on social media that the team has been actively responding to player feedback.
While Marvel’s Wolverine may not have received the same level of acclaim as other single-player PlayStation experiences, it’s encouraging to see Insomniac taking steps to address and improve the game’s shortcomings.
