Kojima Productions urges gamers to question claims about Physint’s development issues.

Following discussions about the tumultuous development of Physint, Kojima Productions has assured fans on X that the studio is in a “healthy, profitable state.” They also urged players to approach any unofficial claims regarding the game’s publisher change with skepticism, though they did not directly refute the recent reporting.

On September 9, it was revealed that PlayStation would no longer be publishing Physint, with Xbox stepping in as the new publisher. A report on September 11 detailed that PlayStation dropped the project due to missed deadlines and the underwhelming profitability of the Death Stranding titles for Sony. In response, Kojima Productions released a detailed statement on X.

“None of the claims made came from any official or on-the-record source, and we encourage you to take them with a dose of skepticism,” the post stated. “This was a serious situation for the studio with potentially significant implications. While we understand the article may have caused concern, we want to reassure everyone that the studio is in a healthy, profitable state, development on Physint is progressing with Xbox, and our relationship with PlayStation remains strong.”

In an interview, Kojima expressed his surprise at PlayStation’s decision to exit the project. “We couldn’t understand it. Jim Ryan had already retired, but I thought this was a project that Sony Interactive Entertainment and I had agreed to collaborate on,” he shared. “This is the biggest selling title I could possibly create. I didn’t think Physint would be on the cancellation list.”

While Kojima Productions is asking fans to be wary of the claims made in the report, they have not provided evidence that completely contradicts them. Their focus seems to be on reassuring the public about the studio’s current health and the ongoing positive relationship with PlayStation, which the report did not dispute.

Kojima also acknowledged the challenges of running an independent studio, stating, “Many who have gone independent and started new studios have struggled to achieve real success. If my studio were to close, it would discourage others from pursuing independent ventures. I wanted to stand firm for indies, so I needed to find a new partner.”

An outlet reached out to the reporter for comment on Kojima Productions’ latest statement, but no response was given. Physint currently lacks a release date, but when it does arrive, it is expected to launch on PC and Xbox consoles, not on PlayStation.
