Injustice 3 Leak Unveils Two Characters and Hints at Upcoming Fighter Development
It’s becoming increasingly evident that NetherRealm, the studio behind Mortal Kombat, is gearing up for a sequel to 2017’s Injustice 2. Recent findings from a resume linked to the studio provide further proof that Injustice 3 is in the works, along with hints at two confirmed characters, one of whom hasn’t appeared in the previous titles.
On September 21, a report surfaced about a stuntworker’s resume that mentioned motion capture sessions for a project simply titled “Injustice 3.” This stuntworker has previously collaborated with NetherRealm, contributing to earlier projects, making their involvement in motion capture for Injustice 3, which hasn’t been officially announced yet, quite plausible.
Notably, the resume lists two character names: Supergirl and Batwoman.
Supergirl’s inclusion is expected, as she played a significant role in Injustice 2, which will be nearly a decade old by 2026. Her return for the sequel isn’t surprising. However, Batwoman’s presence raises some questions. As noted, Batwoman met her end in the Injustice comics, which are considered part of the game’s canon. The games even reference these comics directly. So, what gives? Well, in the world of comics, death is rarely permanent. It’s also possible that another character could assume the Batwoman identity, or perhaps there’s some time-travel twist in store for Injustice 3. NetherRealm’s last title, Mortal Kombat 1, was a soft reboot of the entire MK universe.
This isn’t the first indication of Injustice 3’s development. Just last week, a playtest in California was rumored to be linked to the game. Earlier this year, there were also reports of the game’s title appearing on an artist’s resume. It seems likely that NetherRealm is set to return to the DC universe after nearly a decade.
The prospect of Injustice 3 being in development is exciting. While the new mobile DC fighting game, DCKO, looks decent, I’m eager for another major AAA DC fighting game from the studio behind Mortal Kombat. Hopefully, more details will emerge soon.
