Daredevil: Born Again to Conclude After Season 3

It’s the end of the line for the man without fear. Reports indicate that the upcoming third season of Daredevil: Born Again will also be its final chapter.

Filming for Daredevil: Born Again wrapped up two months ago, and the series is currently in post-production. However, showrunner Dario Scardapane and Marvel have reportedly parted ways, leaving uncertainty about who will take the reins for the remainder of post-production on the Disney Plus series.

Daredevil: Born Again serves as a sequel to the original Netflix Daredevil series. The revival faced a rocky development phase and underwent significant changes during the 2023 Hollywood strikes. Initially planned as an 18-episode series, it was later divided into two separate seasons before a third season was confirmed around this time last year.

The conclusion of Daredevil: Born Again signals that Marvel Studios is scaling back its television offerings on Disney Plus. While Marvel renewed Wonder Man for a second season, it was unexpectedly canceled just months later. VisionQuest is set to premiere in October, followed by Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 in January 2027. Currently, the animated Spider-Man series and the third season of Born Again are the only shows publicly slated for 2027, a stark contrast to previous years when Marvel Studios launched five shows on Disney Plus in 2021.

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 wrapped up with Mayor Wilson Fisk’s (Vincent D’Onofrio) reign over New York City coming to an end. In his effort to take down Fisk, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) publicly revealed his identity as Daredevil and was subsequently arrested. It’s likely that we’ll find him behind bars at the start of the next season.

Set photos have given us a glimpse of who will appear in Daredevil: Born Again’s third and final season. After Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) made a brief return in season 2, the entire Defenders team is back together for season 3. Photos have confirmed the return of Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones) and Luke Cage (Mike Colter), reuniting the Defenders. The extent of Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage’s roles remains to be seen.

As the returns of Jones and Colter suggest, Marvel has a way of surprising fans; while Daredevil: Born Again may be concluding, it doesn’t necessarily spell the end for Cox’s Daredevil, Ritter’s Jessica Jones, and the rest of the crew. Cox has already made a notable appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle/The Punisher—who debuted in the Netflix series and appeared in Born Again—has also made a splash on the big screen with a significant role in this summer’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. So, never say never.

Warning: major spoilers for the finale of Daredevil: Born Again season 2.
