Two acclaimed Lord of the Rings titles are set to launch on Switch 2.

The world of Middle-earth is buzzing with new stories and adventures. With productions like The Hunt for Gollum and The Rings of Power expanding Tolkien’s universe, there’s plenty to look forward to. Plus, Warner Bros. is working on yet another film in the Lord of the Rings saga, featuring talents like Stephen Colbert and Peter Jackson.

Classic titles are also making a comeback, as seen with The Lord of the Rings: War in the North now available on modern consoles.

Now, two of the standout Lord of the Rings games from the last decade are making their way to a Nintendo console. Aspyr has announced the launch of the Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle, which includes both Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of War for the Nintendo Switch 2. This bundle is set to release on September 30, giving Nintendo fans a chance to dive into both epic adventures.

The bundle features the Game of the Year Edition of Shadow of Mordor and the Definitive Edition of Shadow of War, complete with major story expansions and additional downloadable content. Players can also purchase each game separately. The standard price for the bundle is $69.99, but pre-orders are currently available at a limited-time discount of $34.99.

For those who haven’t experienced them yet, Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War are open-world action games that explore Tolkien’s Middle-earth without directly retelling the stories of The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings. Instead, they present an original narrative focused on Mordor, Sauron, and a new hero embroiled in the conflict against the Dark Lord.

In the first game, players follow Talion, a Gondorian ranger who is slain alongside his family during an attack by Sauron’s forces at the Black Gate. Talion is brought back to life through a unique connection with Celebrimbor, a mysterious Wraith and the Elven smith behind the Rings of Power. Together, they traverse Mordor, utilizing Celebrimbor’s powers to combat Sauron’s minions.

The sequel continues this journey, with Talion and Celebrimbor striving to create a new Ring of Power and assemble an army to confront Sauron. This leads to epic fortress sieges, where players can recruit orcs, exploit rivalries, and build their own forces within Mordor.

Neither game serves as a direct continuation of Tolkien’s novels. Instead, they creatively incorporate established characters, locations, and lore from Middle-earth into a fresh narrative that exists alongside the events of Tolkien’s works. This approach grants Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War the freedom to explore the setting in ways that a traditional adaptation could not.

What truly sets the Mordor games apart is the innovative Nemesis System. The orcs in these games are not just faceless enemies; significant foes can survive encounters with Talion, remember past battles, and climb the ranks. An orc that defeats you may become a recurring adversary, while one you conquer can be dominated and added to your army.

This system ensures that each player’s experience in Mordor is unique, crafting a personal adventure within Tolkien’s realm. With open-world exploration, intense combat, stealth mechanics, supernatural powers, and large-scale battles in Shadow of War, these two titles offer a distinct way to engage with Middle-earth.
