Xbox Introduces ‘Mythic’ Achievements with a 15-Second Unlock Sound
Xbox is starting to introduce a new type of achievement known as “Mythic” achievements, which can only be unlocked after players have earned all other achievements in a game. This feature is akin to Sony’s PlayStation Platinum trophies, but it comes with a rather lengthy unlock sound.
Reports indicate that Mythic achievements have begun appearing in the Xbox app on PC following a recent update. These achievements will be tracked separately from standard ones, won’t be influenced by DLC achievements, and will carry a value of 0 Gamerscore. To unlock a Mythic achievement, players must first complete all base achievements in a game. Once achieved, a new on-screen animation and sound effect will play, as highlighted by Xbox content creator Klobrille on Twitter.
Interestingly, this new sound effect lasts nearly 15 seconds.
A new update for the Xbox PC App reveals: Xbox Mythic Achievement; plus symbol and unlock sound.
The Xbox Mythic Achievement is expected to be a 100% Gamerscore game completion reward.
While many players may not frequently encounter this unlock noise, it does feel a bit excessive.
These Mythic achievements were initially teased by Xbox’s Asha Sharma back in August, and insiders have reported seeing references to them for several weeks. It’s curious that these achievements are being rolled out during a time when Xbox has also been making significant staff cuts across its studios as part of a broader restructuring that began in July. It feels like Xbox might be trying to divert attention with this shiny new feature while navigating through these challenging changes.
