Best Buy to Host Pokémon 30th Anniversary TCG Event Featuring Free Giveaways
Mark your calendars, trainers! Best Buy is keeping the Pokémon 30th Anniversary trading card game celebrations alive with a new “Trade and Play” event. Here’s what you need to know.
The Trade and Play day is set for October 3, from noon to 2 p.m. local time at participating locations. You can check if your nearby Best Buy will be part of the 30th Anniversary festivities.
Pokémon fans attending the event will receive a trading kit to swap cards with fellow trainers. While specific details are still under wraps, we can look back at a recent Trade and Play event themed around Pokémon Worlds for some clues. About a month ago, Best Buy handed out a trading kit that included a Chaos Rising pack, a Pikachu promo card, a Pokémon binder, and a sleeping Pikachu model.
It’s likely that the October event will feature 30th Celebration packs or cards from Pokémon’s latest set, Pitch Black. Since this event takes place just after the 30th Anniversary Booster Bundles go on sale, it’s reasonable to expect booster packs from the celebratory set to be available.
As for the promo card, we might see the Mewtwo card that is set to hit stores on October 2. This is also the same card that will be given out during Target’s unofficial Family Day event. Keep in mind that at some locations, customers may need to make a purchase to receive the promo card for the Trade and Play event, so specifics could vary by store.
Unlike previous Trade and Play events at Best Buy, this one does not require participants to be children.
Best Buy will have a limited number of trading kits available, and these freebies will be distributed while supplies last. In past events, items like the promo card and model kit ran out before the card packs, so arriving early might be a smart move.
