David Tennant’s Doctor Who Makes a Comeback for 20th Anniversary Celebration
Currently, the Doctor is battling production challenges while searching for a new TV home after a rocky stint with Disney. Flashback 20 years, and the Doctor faced a different kind of foe: the devil himself. To mark the 20th anniversary of one of the most chilling episodes in Doctor Who history, an epic cinematic experience is set to hit theaters for one night only: Doctor Who: The Satan Pit Extended Cut.
Scheduled for Doctor Who Day on November 23, this event will showcase “The Impossible Planet” and “The Satan Pit” in a newly edited, movie-length format. Fans will recall this two-part story featuring the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) and Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) as they arrive at a sanctuary base orbiting a black hole, defying the odds. A human team is drilling into the planet to uncover the mystery of the base’s stability, inadvertently awakening a terrifying entity known as The Beast.
These episodes are pivotal in the modern Doctor Who saga, testing the Doctor’s faith and resolve while challenging his understanding as a Time Lord. This makes the two-parter one of the standout moments of Tennant’s run. It also introduced the Ood, a telepathic alien race that has become one of the most memorable elements of the series.
The Doctor Who: The Satan Pit Extended Cut will include deleted scenes that were previously exclusive to DVD, along with never-before-seen extended footage, making this event a must-attend for both new and longtime fans. Additionally, attendees will enjoy an exclusive interview with BAFTA-award-winning director and producer James Strong, who will share insights into the making of one of the most frightening episodes in the show’s history.
“Doctor Who’s brilliance lies in its endless capacity for discovery. Even with beloved stories like The Impossible Planet and The Satan Pit, we can present fans with something fresh, featuring restored deleted scenes and new extended footage in this special cinema cut,” said Natasha Spence, Global Events Director. “Doctor Who Day is the ideal occasion to celebrate this sense of exploration with fans. We’re thrilled to collaborate with CinemaLive again to bring this unforgettable Tenth Doctor and Rose adventure to the big screen, allowing audiences to experience it together in theaters for the first time.”
Tickets for Doctor Who: The Satan Pit Extended Cut will be available starting September 25 at 9 a.m. local time. Fans can check which of the 1,000 participating cinemas across the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand will be showing the event.
