Persona 4 Revival’s New Character Won’t Be a Social Link
During the latest Persona broadcast, it was announced that the original cast of Persona 4 will be getting a new addition in the upcoming remake. Aika Nakamura will be joining the roster, although her role may not be as significant as initially thought. Originally introduced as a full social link character, this information has since been clarified.
The mix-up regarding Aika’s role arose from the English version of the second Persona 4 Revival broadcast, which aired on September 19. In that presentation, she was described as a “new social link character,” referring to the series’ relationship-building mechanic. However, on September 24, the developers clarified via social media that “Aika is indeed a location-episode character and not a social link.”
So, what’s the distinction? Location episodes are akin to the linked episodes in Persona 3 Reload, offering new side quests that enhance the game world and provide insights into various characters. In contrast, social links delve deeper into character relationships and significantly influence the game’s narrative and mechanics. Characters with social links, including party members, will also feature location episode moments in Revival to further enrich their stories.
Aika is the daughter of the local Chinese restaurant owners and a classmate of many main characters in Revival. Her storyline will involve players exploring Inaba’s history. While this marks her first appearance in the game, Aika isn’t entirely new to the Persona 4 universe.
She was first mentioned in Persona 4 Golden, the 2012 enhanced version of the original game, although she never made a physical appearance. Aika has also been referenced in Persona 4 The Animation and The Golden Animation in a minor capacity. Fans will finally have the chance to meet her in Revival and uncover her expanded narrative.
Persona 4 Revival is set to launch on February 18, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, with a Switch 2 version scheduled for May 20, 2027.
