Prince of Persia Studio Announces Update Cessation as Castlevania Release Nears

Earlier this month, Evil Empire rolled out an anniversary update for 2025’s The Rogue Prince of Persia. In an unexpected turn, the studio has announced that this update will be the final one, marking the end of support just over a year after the game’s launch. So, why the sudden decision? It seems Evil Empire is gearing up for the upcoming release of its next title.

In a message shared on the game’s Steam page and the studio’s social media, they stated, “We originally planned two updates, but decided to bring the best and most important parts of both into this one.” They added, “We’ve always been a bit too optimistic about what we could do, mostly because we genuinely love working on the game, but we feel this is the right way to wrap up its first year.”

The anniversary update, released on September 17, introduced several enhancements, including improved pacing and a refined endgame experience. The patch notes span 15 pages, highlighting the extensive effort the team put into polishing the game before moving on. While no further updates are planned, players can still enjoy the game in its well-tuned state for a long time.

Shifting focus from The Rogue Prince of Persia makes sense for Evil Empire, especially with their schedule ramping up. They are set to launch Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse on October 15. Following the release, the studio will likely need to implement various updates and hotfixes as players encounter bugs or require balance adjustments.

Belmont’s Curse is particularly thrilling as it marks the first new entry in the Castlevania series since 2014’s Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. This installment will return to the franchise’s classic 2D perspective and follow Rose Belmont, the daughter of former protagonist Trevor, in a narrative set after Castlevania 3.
