New God of War Laufey Footage Unveils Fresh Weapon and Physical Edition Details

The more Santa Monica Studio reveals about God of War Laufey, the clearer it becomes that they’re drawing from the fun-focused gameplay of earlier titles in the series. The latest footage showcases Faye, the game’s protagonist, executing impressive air combos reminiscent of Devil May Cry, seamlessly chaining double jumps, kicks, and sword slashes before introducing her new weapon, the Serpent Bow. It looks absolutely awesome.

According to the blog post detailing the weapon, the Serpent Bow can be notched and fired at “lightning speed,” allowing Faye to keep enemies airborne for follow-up attacks. When she fully pulls the trigger, Faye can take careful aim at her target, extending the range of her projectiles and enabling her to hit specific body parts to debilitate foes. A half-press of the trigger shifts her into a more agile hip-fire stance, letting her unleash a flurry of arrows at close range while maintaining her combos.

Customization is also a key feature of the Serpent Bow. Players can choose from various arrow types, including rapid fire, explosive, and multi-target options. Additionally, the bow can be fitted with different Scales that alter its appearance and provide unique perks. Faye’s other weapons, such as her sword and Catalyst artifacts that unlock different magical abilities, can also be customized.

Santa Monica has also unveiled the pre-order bonuses for God of War Laufey, set to launch on February 16, 2027. Pre-orders kick off on September 29 at 10 a.m. local time. The standard edition includes several bonuses, such as the Last Wish armor set, a cosmetic for the cube companion Phranque, and an in-game resource pack. The digital deluxe edition offers a complete Dark Alchemy loadout, featuring armor, a blade, a bow, and a Catalyst, along with a digital mini artbook and the game’s soundtrack.

God of War Laufey follows Faye, also known as Laufey the Just, a frost giant warrior from Midgard. Before her passing, she was married to Kratos and the mother of Atreus. The game will explore Faye’s journey in the afterlife as she confronts other fallen gods and seeks a way to escape this bizarre realm to save her family from a dire fate, all while pulling off some epic air combos—definitely a thrilling prospect.
