“Reacher Gets the Green Light for Season 6 on Prime Video”

Reacher is on a roll! Just days after the explosive finale of season 4, which stars Alan Ritchson, Prime Video has announced that a sixth season is officially in the pipeline, all while production for season 5 is already underway. This news comes as no shock, considering season 4’s impressive viewership: it attracted 66 million viewers worldwide within its first 28 days on the platform.

Prime Video has labeled Reacher as “one of its most-watched original series,” boasting over 200 million viewers globally to date. Season 4 has now secured a spot among the top five most-viewed seasons of any original series in the streaming service’s history. Interestingly, more than half of Reacher’s audience hails from outside the U.S., with significant viewership in the U.K., Germany, and Brazil.

“Reacher hits hard,” said Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios. “What Lee Child has created, along with Nick Santora and his creative teams, is simply incredible. Alan Ritchson embodies Jack Reacher — his performance has captivated audiences worldwide. Together with our partners at Paramount Television Studios, we’re thrilled to continue this journey. Reacher is a truly iconic series, and we’re excited to be on this ride with such an extraordinary cast and crew for Season Six.”

The recently concluded fourth season is based on Lee Child’s novel Gone Tomorrow, the 13th book in the Reacher series. Season 5 will adapt Child’s Make Me, the 20th book, as previously confirmed.

While Prime Video hasn’t revealed which book will be adapted for season 6, earlier seasons have drawn from Killing Floor, Bad Luck and Trouble, and Persuader. The Reacher films featuring Tom Cruise adapted Child’s One Shot and Never Go Back.

Ritchson mentioned that one of Child’s novels might not make the cut: 1998’s Die Trying, the second book in the series. He shared on Threads that Die Trying is his favorite Reacher book and noted, “I had it approved until someone got re-elected,” likely referencing U.S. President Donald Trump. This book features Reacher being kidnapped by a separatist militia in Montana.

Fortunately, there’s no shortage of source material. The Jack Reacher series includes 30 novels and a short story collection, with more on the way. Lee and Andrew Child, the author’s younger brother, are set to release a new novel titled Chain Reaction this fall.

Hold your horses! We still don’t have a confirmed release date for season 5. Currently in production in Toronto, filming is expected to wrap later this year, which could lead to a mid- to late-2027 release. Given Amazon MGM Studios’ typical turnaround of 15 to 18 months for new seasons, we might not see season 6 until late 2028 or early 2029.

This timing could coincide with a new administration, so perhaps Ritchson will eventually get his Die Trying adaptation. In the meantime, he may also star in a film based on Helldivers.

Season 5 has been described by series creator Lee Child as a “brutal” and “disgusting story.” He recently mentioned, “It’s not fit for family consumption, so I don’t know what they’re going to do about the actual crime in that.” Sounds like a wild ride.

Reacher first hit Prime Video in 2022, and all four seasons are currently available for streaming. Additionally, the eight-episode spinoff series Neagley is also available on the platform.

From off-grid survivalists to globe-trotting operatives, these series deliver brutal showdowns and cunning investigations.
