Naughty Dog Marks The Last of Us Day with New Ghost of Yōtei DLC Release
Every September, Naughty Dog marks The Last of Us Day (previously known as Outbreak Day until the studio made a smart rebranding choice in 2020). This day, September 26, aligns with the in-game date of the Cordyceps outbreak, and Naughty Dog takes the opportunity to celebrate the franchise with fresh wallpapers, awesome merchandise, and a trailer for the HBO adaptation. This year, the standout announcement is DLC for a completely different game series.
Naughty Dog has teamed up with Sucker Punch, the developers behind the Ghost series, to introduce a clicker-inspired armor set for Ghost of Yōtei. This content will be available for download on Thursday, coinciding with the release of Ghost of Yōtei: Complete Edition and its Echoes of Sekigahara expansion. It’s definitely a striking addition.
In a blog post about The Last of Us Day 2026, Naughty Dog kicked things off by announcing that the series now has official social media accounts, making the DLC for another game the highlight of the news. They also unveiled a collaboration with Youtooz for a new Bloody Clicker figure, which is pretty neat.
Additional announcements included a charity stream for AbleGamers (starting at 5 p.m. EDT on Monday), a subway “ambiance” video, discounts on Steam and Epic, new Steam avatars for Part 1 and Part 2, a The Last of Us-themed PlayStation background, and more PlayStation avatars. You can use the provided codes to snag the PlayStation avatars.
As expected, Naughty Dog didn’t share any updates about the future of The Last of Us series. The studio is currently focused on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which has no set release date yet. Beyond that, it remains unclear what Naughty Dog will tackle next, or if their flagship franchises—The Last of Us and Uncharted, which hasn’t seen a new release since 2017—will make a comeback.
Neil Druckmann, co-creator of the series, recently gave fans a glimmer of hope, stating that the studio is “not done with The Last of Us” after the HBO series concludes. The TV adaptation is set to wrap up in 2027 with its third season.
The Last of Us season 3 will feature appearances from Laura Bailey, Ian Alexander, and John Goodman.
