Troy Baker Hypes Up Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, While Naughty Dog Delays New Reveals Until 2027: “We Need More Time to Perfect It”

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was first unveiled at The Game Awards 2022, but since then, updates have been scarce. It seems likely that this year’s showcase won’t feature any major news about Naughty Dog’s highly anticipated action-adventure title. In fact, the studio has indicated that fans shouldn’t expect any new details until 2027.

Studio head Neil Druckmann shared in a recent update that the team is fully immersed in what is shaping up to be Naughty Dog’s most ambitious project to date. “There’s an electricity around the studio right now as all the pieces come together, and we’re stoked to finally unveil Intergalactic in all its glory. But…we need to cook for just a little bit longer.”

Set 2,000 years in the future within an alternate universe where space travel became mainstream in the 1980s, the game follows a bounty hunter named Jordan. While pursuing a criminal syndicate, he finds himself stranded on an alien planet, where he begins to uncover its hidden history and secrets. That’s about all we know so far, and with the studio having gone nearly an entire console generation without a new release, expectations are sky-high.

Troy Baker, known for his role as Joel in The Last of Us, has also weighed in on Intergalactic, claiming it will be an experience that players are simply unprepared for. He expressed his excitement, hinting that the game will push creative boundaries once again.

While Naughty Dog has been building hype for Intergalactic, Druckmann is managing expectations regarding the timeline for new information. “We want to set expectations: we’re going to be quiet for the rest of this year,” he stated. “In 2027, that changes. We’ll fully reveal Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and give you a proper look at Jordan’s wild sci-fi adventure.”

This announcement follows a video of Baker telling an audience that the game is going to “blow” their minds, emphasizing that the studio is once again pushing past its creative limits. “You are not ready,” he said.

Fans will have ample time to prepare, especially if the game doesn’t launch in 2027. Druckmann acknowledged the long wait for updates, assuring fans, “We know it’s been a long time since we’ve had much to share with you. We don’t take your continued support for granted. We’re working incredibly hard to make something worthy of your patience.”
