Danny Boyle shares the latest on the future of 28 Years Later Part 3.

January feels like ages ago, so it’s understandable if you’ve forgotten that *28 Years Later: The Bone Temple* dropped this year. This sequel to 2025’s *28 Years Later*, set in Danny Boyle’s gripping zombie horror universe, is a remarkable film that breathes new life into the genre and paves the way for the conclusion of a planned trilogy. While the first two films came out in quick succession, the third installment hasn’t seen any progress yet, but Boyle is giving fans a glimmer of hope.

At the Zurich Film Festival, Boyle mentioned that “28 Years 3, or whatever it ends up being called, will get made because people keep asking about it.” Although he’s uncertain about the timeline, Alex Garland — who penned *28 Days Later* and both *28 Years* films — has already crafted a script that Boyle describes as “very good.” However, there’s still the minor hurdle of the trilogy’s conclusion not being officially greenlit.

The next film is expected to prominently feature Cillian Murphy, who played the lead in *28 Days Later*. His return was hinted at the end of *The Bone Temple*, where he makes a brief appearance. Jim (Murphy’s character) is likely to team up with Spike (Alfie Williams) and Kellie (Erin Kellyman) from *The Bone Temple*.

In addition to discussing *28 Years Later*, Boyle also touched on the Bond franchise. He was once set to direct *No Time to Die*, Daniel Craig’s final outing as the iconic spy, but left the project due to creative differences with the producers and Craig himself.

“They lost confidence in it,” Boyle remarked. “It’s a shame, because it could have been really good.” Cary Joji Fukunaga ultimately took the helm for the film. Looking ahead, Boyle believes Denis Villeneuve, who is set to direct the next Bond film, will be a great fit for the franchise. Interestingly, Villeneuve was initially approached to direct *No Time to Die* before Boyle was attached.

When it comes to who should take over the role after Craig, Boyle suggested Jack O’Connell. The two have worked together on the first *28 Years Later* and the upcoming film *Ink*. Fans might also recognize O’Connell as the disturbingly charismatic vampire Remmick in *Sinners*.

Perhaps if everyone streams it on Netflix, we might just get another sequel.
