Bradley Cooper Joins the Cast as Duke in Danny McBride’s G.I. Joe Reboot
Actor and director Bradley Cooper, known for his roles in The Hangover and A Star Is Born, is set to take on the iconic role of Duke in the upcoming live-action G.I. Joe reboot from Paramount. It seems like the entertainment industry is just recycling our childhood toys and comics endlessly.
On October 1, it was reported that Cooper had officially joined the G.I. Joe project after a few weeks of discussions. Director Danny McBride had always envisioned Cooper as the leader of the team, but it was uncertain if Cooper’s packed schedule would allow him to participate. However, after reviewing the script and chatting with McBride, Cooper was reportedly eager to step into the role of Duke. A hefty paycheck likely sweetened the deal as well.
Cooper and McBride have collaborated in the past, with Cooper making a guest appearance in McBride’s hit HBO series, The Righteous Gemstones. Currently, Cooper is busy writing, directing, and starring in the ongoing Ocean’s Eleven prequel.
Details about the plot remain scarce, but McBride has mentioned that his G.I. Joe film will not be a comedy and will take place in Springfield.
It has also been confirmed that this new G.I. Joe movie will not feature a crossover with the Transformers franchise, despite hints from the last Transformers film. Additionally, it won’t connect to the previous live-action movies from 2009 and 2013, nor will it relate to the 2021 Snake Eyes origins film, which seems to have faded from memory. This marks Paramount’s third attempt to reboot the G.I. Joe series. Best of luck to everyone involved!
