Fast & Furious Franchise Set for Surprising 2028 Release
The next installment in the Fast & Furious saga, titled Fast Forever, is set to hit theaters in 2028. While it’s being billed as the grand finale of the series, it appears that the franchise still has plenty of fuel left in the tank. The series is making its way to television, with Vin Diesel on board to help steer the project.
According to reports, a new series has been greenlit, aiming for a 2028 premiere to align with the film’s release. Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman will be at the helm as writers, showrunners, and executive producers. Diesel, who is also an executive producer for the series, confirmed back in May that development was underway, and this announcement solidifies those plans. It’s still unclear if Diesel will reprise his iconic role as street racer and mechanic Dominic Toretto, which may hinge on the character’s outcome in Fast Forever, currently scheduled for a March 17, 2028 release.
It’s been over three years since Fast X left fans hanging with a cliffhanger. Although Fast Forever has faced multiple delays, Diesel has stated that production is set to begin this December. Louis Leterrier, who directed Fast X, will also take the reins for Fast Forever. Diesel has praised the screenplay by Michael Lesslie, calling it “the best script I have read in decades” and admitting it brought him to tears.
Alongside Diesel, familiar faces like Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and Ludacris are expected to return. Fast X’s post-credits scenes hinted at the return of Gisele Yashar and Luke Hobbs. Diesel has mentioned that a key element for the finale is reuniting Dom with Brian O’Conner, portrayed by the late Paul Walker. Caleb Walker, who stepped in for his brother during the filming of Furious 7, believes that Brian’s return is possible, but it would require careful consideration to ensure it’s done tastefully.
Fast Forever may be taking its time, but Leterrier encourages fans to remain hopeful.
