The remake of Zelda: Ocarina of Time introduces an exciting new feature: a fully playable ocarina.

Nintendo is set to release a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, bringing a fresh visual style and enhanced gameplay features to Link and Zelda’s iconic Nintendo 64 journey. This remake will introduce two exciting additions that extend the gaming experience beyond the title itself.

One standout feature is the introduction of physical ocarinas that interact with the Ocarina of Time remake.

The first of these is a fully playable ocarina that fans can use in real life. This instrument connects directly to the game, allowing Link to replicate the exact notes played by users. Series producer Eiji Aonuma demonstrated this feature by performing Epona’s song, a beloved tune associated with Link’s trusty horse.

Players can still input notes using the standard controller buttons, but Nintendo has also revealed that the Switch 2 controllers will feature a microphone, enabling players to hum notes into the game for the same effect.

For those who missed out on downloading the Nintendo Switch app for Zelda Notes in Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom back in 2025, there’s now another reason to check it out. The Ocarina of Time remake will include 11 different options within the app, though only a few have been detailed so far.

One feature, Today’s Record, will chronicle player achievements in chronological order, complete with screenshots of completed actions. Think of it as Nintendo’s take on achievements, tailored specifically for Zelda. This feature will also provide players with useful information.

The app’s Zelda Notes section will showcase a variety of photographs of locations players need to discover. Finding these areas will reward players with points that can be exchanged for ocarina scores to use in-game. Some prompts will lead to easily recognizable spots, while others will challenge players to seek out more obscure locations, like unique rock formations. This encourages exploration and appreciation of the intricate details Nintendo has woven into the remake. Players can also request hints to help locate these areas.

Additionally, the app offers a digital version of the ocarina, allowing players to practice. It provides guided playback for entire songs or just the beginning of a score, helping players learn the correct notes and timing to create specific sounds.

An exciting aspect of this feature is the ability for players to record their own songs and share them with others via QR codes, paving the way for some fun surprises!

The app will also include a quiz section where players must answer questions within 10 seconds. Each question comes with four possible answers and an accompanying image. Examples include “Who does this house belong to?” and “Which plant family do Bomb Flowers belong to?”

There are a total of 2,000 questions available, and players can attempt the quiz once a day. For those eager to try again, spending 20 Rupees will grant another chance. The more consecutive correct answers players achieve, the higher their “Egg Level” and “Cucco Level” will rise.

Other options mentioned but not elaborated on during the presentation include Map, Hall of Fallen Foes, Global Play Data, Photo Studio, Threads of Time, and amiibo. While some of these features are self-explanatory, further details will be revealed by Nintendo in due time.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on November 5, featuring a significant graphical overhaul.
