James Gunn announces he’s developing a sequel to Man of Tomorrow.

James Gunn is diving into the creative process for Man of Tomorrow, the sequel to 2025’s Superman, but he’s already looking ahead to his next project. Although the DC film won’t hit theaters until next year, Gunn has shared that he’s begun writing something new.

He revealed this exciting update in response to a fan inquiry on Threads, his preferred social media platform. Gunn humorously noted that he started writing because he “had to do something while I was waiting for the assembly!” This assembly cut of Man of Tomorrow is essentially the first draft of the film’s edit. Over the weekend, he announced that this assembly cut has been completed, which likely means he’ll need to pause his new writing project as post-production on Man of Tomorrow ramps up.

Unfortunately, Gunn didn’t drop any hints about what his next project might entail. Given his exclusive deal with Warner Bros. Discovery, it’s reasonable to speculate that it will be another DC venture. While there are several projects lined up in the DC schedule, most already have confirmed writers and directors who aren’t Gunn. It could potentially be a third Superman film or, hopefully, a true Justice League movie.

In addition to confirming his next project, Gunn also had to clarify some confusion caused by one of the actors in Man of Tomorrow. Frank Grillo shared a fan-made poster for the film featuring Adria Arjona as Wonder Woman, a theory that has gained traction among fans despite no official confirmation. Gunn took this chance to set the record straight, stating, “Frank doesn’t know who Adria is playing in the DCU and whether or not she has any sort of incredibly small cameo in [Man of Tomorrow] or not. People have been making way too much of this.”

While several actors in the DCU are reprising their roles, it’s the newcomers that have fans buzzing. Alongside Arjona, whose role remains under wraps, Matthew Lillard has also sparked considerable speculation. Just a few days ago, Gunn had to dispel rumors that Lillard would be taking on the role of the DCU’s Flash.
