Bayonetta’s Comeback Looks Promising as Platinum Aims to Expand Her Story
We might not have seen the last of Bayonetta just yet. Atsushi Inaba, the head of PlatinumGames, has hinted that while he can’t share any specifics right now, the studio is keen to keep the iconic character in the spotlight. This is promising news for fans, especially since Bayonetta last appeared in the 2023 prequel, Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon. Now, all we can do is hope for Bayonetta 4.
Inaba mentioned in an interview that PlatinumGames has “a strong desire to further develop the character of Bayonetta and expand her world. Please look forward to seeing what form that takes in the future.” Hyung-tae Kim, CEO of Shift Up, who joined the conversation to discuss the upcoming Stellar Blade and Bayonetta crossover, echoed the excitement, suggesting that the series should continue all the way to Bayonetta 10, and playfully urged everyone to get the scoop off the record.
PlatinumGames is currently working on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, an adaptation of the acclaimed comic series. This project was reintroduced in June 2026, with Platinum taking over development from Black Forest, but it currently lacks a release date.
The idea of Bayonetta making a comeback is a bit of a mixed bag. While the character has a massive fanbase, the last mainline game left some fans disappointed due to questionable narrative choices. The series tried to break new ground with Bayonetta Origins, which turned out to be a creative prequel, but there hasn’t been much progress on a new mainline game since then.
In 2022, series creator Hideki Kamiya confirmed that a fourth mainline game was in the works, but he departed the studio about a year later. The studio has also undergone significant restructuring, resulting in the exit of several key figures alongside Kamiya. The concern is that the Bayonetta franchise might end up being limited to crossovers, like the upcoming appearance in Stellar Blade or her inclusion in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
