2B from Nier: Automata Makes a Comeback in Exciting Horror Crossover

Square Enix is bringing the beloved characters from Nier: Automata into the world of asymmetric multiplayer survival horror with a new crossover in Dead by Daylight. Starting today, October 6, players can experience this exciting collaboration featuring three iconic characters from the acclaimed RPG.

The announcement came from the developers at Behaviour Interactive, who shared a reveal trailer on social media. Creative director Dave Richard expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, noting the thematic connections between the two games:

“Beyond the amazing characters and incredible visuals, there’s a definite connection between the themes of our two universes, both dealing with cycles of violence and suffering. Bringing 2B, A2, and Emil into The Fog gave us a chance to help celebrate what makes Nier: Automata so special to us.”

In a twist from previous collaborations, these characters will serve as reskins for existing ones rather than being entirely new additions. On the Survivor side, Feng Min will don a 2B skin, while Yui Kimura will sport an A2 skin. Both will be Legendary Outfits, complete with unique music, voice lines, HUD icons, menu idle animations, and more. For the Killer side, The Legion will receive a Very Rare Outfit inspired by Emil, adding a fun twist that evokes the essence of Nier creator Yoko Taro hunting you down. The collection also features Pod 042 and Legendary portraits of 2B and A2.

It’s been nearly ten years since the release of Nier: Automata, which garnered widespread acclaim, yet there’s been no word on a direct sequel. Instead, Square Enix has opted for crossovers with various titles. Taro humorously remarked in an interview that these collaborations happen because he is a “slave to capitalism,” willing to engage as long as there’s financial incentive.

While Taro did create NieR 3 in the form of the mobile gacha game Nier: Reincarnation, which some fans view as a significant continuation of the series’ narrative, it was ultimately shut down in 2024. In 2025, Taro mentioned that he had attempted to work on several new projects, all of which were canceled, though it remains unclear if any were related to the Nier franchise. Although it doesn’t seem to be a priority for Square Enix at the moment, fans continue to hold out hope for the series’ return.
