Kindle Paperwhite from the previous generation now available at a 30% discount.

When we talk about “last-gen” devices, it often implies some significant trade-offs compared to the latest models. However, the last-gen Kindle Paperwhite doesn’t quite fit that mold as much as other tech might. The newer version boasts a 30 percent faster book opening time (though that’s not the same as how quickly you can turn pages) and features a sleeker aluminum design that’s just a millimeter thinner, but it comes with a $50 price hike.

The 2024 edition retains the impressive 300ppi display, an auto-adjusting front light, and a waterproof (IPX8) build. The Signature Edition, which is currently on sale, eliminates lockscreen ads, offers double the storage (32GB) compared to the base model, includes wireless charging, and has an ambient light sensor. It’s now priced at $169.99, down from $249.99.

The standard Paperwhite is available for $149.99 (originally $199.99), and while the lower price is appealing, it’s worth considering what you’ll miss out on: it has only half the storage, lacks wireless charging, and includes lockscreen ads.
