Xbox Addresses Grand Theft Auto 6 PC Speculation

Recent reports suggested that Xbox would secure streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto 6, potentially giving its platforms a significant edge for this highly anticipated release. However, Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball has refuted this claim, confirming that GTA 6 will not be an Xbox streaming exclusive and will not be available for streaming on PC.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the most eagerly awaited games of the decade. Unfortunately for many gamers, it won’t be available on PC at launch. The game is set to be a timed console exclusive, debuting on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 on November 19. PC players had a glimmer of hope when a report suggested that Xbox had obtained streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto 6, allowing it to be played on PC through Xbox Cloud Gaming.

XCloud enables fans to stream games from their Xbox digital library on various devices. Unlike Xbox Remote Play, this service doesn’t require access to a console, which would have allowed players to experience GTA 6 at launch, even if it wasn’t the same as running it natively on their PCs.

However, it appears that PC gamers should temper their expectations, as Matthew Ball has clarified that Grand Theft Auto 6 will not be available for streaming on Xbox Cloud Gaming, nor will it be accessible on PC at launch. The initial report originated from an outlet and was based on an unnamed source at Xbox, referencing comments made by Asha Sharma during an all-hands meeting with Xbox employees.

The credibility of the claim was bolstered by Xbox’s prior announcement regarding a reduction in free hours for Xbox Cloud Gaming starting this November. By charging for additional playtime, it would have certainly attracted PC users eager to get their hands on the game early.

While some players may prefer to experience Grand Theft Auto 6 on PS5, there is a limitation that might make them reconsider their choice.
