Rockstar Unveils Exciting New Details About GTA 6
With a game as expansive as Grand Theft Auto 6, fresh previews are bound to reveal details that fans haven’t encountered yet. Those who think they have a grasp on the game’s concepts may soon realize that GTA 6’s gameplay is more intricate than they initially believed. With the release just weeks away, Rockstar Games is unveiling more enticing features.
The latest insights come from a detailed interview with Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar Games, during a 30-minute gameplay session of Grand Theft Auto 6. While the full interview is a deep dive worth exploring, here are some key highlights that fans should be aware of.
Similar to Red Dead Redemption 2, the world of GTA 6 is packed with quirky encounters waiting to be discovered. In the interview, it was mentioned that players might find a man in a dumpster asking for pills, who later offers legal advice. Additionally, Rockstar hinted that shops scattered throughout the GTA 6 map will feature unique items, such as location-specific hairstyles, encouraging players to explore every corner.
In contrast to previous Grand Theft Auto titles, where players could dive into the open world right away after the initial tutorials, GTA 6 will implement a more structured approach. At the beginning, certain parked cars will be off-limits until players progress further in the game, although they can still hijack vehicles from drivers.
Another significant change involves the handling of money. Rockstar emphasizes that cash will play a crucial role, and players will need to gather enough funds to advance in the story. Early gameplay footage suggests that players will have a limited amount of cash they can carry.
Fans are familiar with the Wanted system, where each star indicates an increase in police aggression. However, GTA 6 introduces hollowed-out stars, which indicate that authorities are aware of a crime but haven’t identified the perpetrator yet.
Interestingly, Rockstar notes that acquiring a single full star isn’t a major concern, and players can easily lose it. Engaging in a police chase will feel more like a deliberate choice rather than an unavoidable consequence.
Rockstar also mentions that missions will generally offer multiple solutions. For instance, in a mission showcased in a preview, players had various routes to choose from outside a tower block. While some segments may be on-rails, like specific car chases, they will transition into gameplay moments where players can make active decisions. The goal is to ensure that mission gameplay aligns with the broader open world, allowing players to apply their skills in both contexts.
The dual protagonists, Jason and Lucia, provide a range of tactical options. Players can choose to keep the characters together for increased firepower or split them up to evade attention. After the action, players can check in with either character via text to see how they fared.
We’ve already heard about the diverse array of NPCs in GTA 6 and their extensive dialogue options. Players can reportedly stand in one spot for up to 20 minutes without hearing repeated lines. In the latest interview, Rockstar clarified that NPCs will not just spout random lines; they will react to the player’s presence. If players linger too long or get too close, NPCs might engage with friendly questions, walk away, or even become aggressive.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on November 19.
