Ezra and Thrawn Return in Upcoming Star Wars Release Set for 2027

While Ezra Bridger played a significant role in the first season of Ahsoka, his appearances were mostly reserved for the finale. As we gear up for the second season of the Disney Plus series, fans can look forward to uncovering Ezra’s untold adventures in an upcoming Star Wars story set to release next year. He won’t be facing challenges alone, as the formidable Grand Admiral Thrawn is also making his return.

During the New York Comic Con announcements, a new five-issue limited series titled Star Wars: Ahsoka — Escape from Thrawn was unveiled. The story, crafted by Dave Filoni, the series creator and Lucasfilm’s president, will be penned by Rodney Barnes with artwork by Andrea Di Vito.

Here’s what to expect from the series:

Dive into the untold tale of Ezra Bridger’s daring escape from Peridea! After narrowly avoiding his exile beyond the known galaxy by hiding on Grand Admiral Thrawn’s flagship, Ezra’s journey home is just beginning. With nowhere to hide and pursued across hyperspace, the rebel hero must evade Captain Enoch, confront the dark magic of the Nightsisters, and outsmart the Empire’s greatest strategist if he hopes to survive the Chimaera. This thrilling chapter, based on a story by Dave Filoni, serves as an exciting companion to the upcoming second season of the hit series!

The first issue of Star Wars: Ahsoka — Escape from Thrawn is set to launch on January 20, 2027, coinciding with the premiere of Ahsoka’s second season. More details will be revealed during the Lucasfilm Publishing: Stories from a Galaxy Far, Far Away panel at New York Comic Con, scheduled for October 9 at 11 a.m. EDT in Room 409.

After a brief delay earlier this year, Ahsoka season 2 is now slated for release at the start of next year. Picking up from the cliffhanger of season 1, Ahsoka and Sabine remain stranded on the planet Peridea while being hunted by Shin. Season 1 focused on their quest to reach the original homeworld of the Nightsisters, and now that they’ve arrived at Peridea, it will be intriguing to see where the narrative leads next. Ezra and Thrawn will clash once more as Thrawn seeks to challenge the New Republic.

Rosario Dawson will reprise her role as Ahsoka, joined by Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera, Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger, and Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn. Additionally, Hayden Christensen will return as Anakin Skywalker.

With a limited budget and ambitious plans, will Ahsoka season 2 rise to the occasion?
