Ubisoft to Close Servers for 2022’s Rainbow Six Title

Ubisoft has announced the closure of its latest entry in the Rainbow Six franchise, Rainbow Six Mobile, which debuted four years ago. This mobile spinoff of the beloved tactical shooter Rainbow Six Siege will be officially “sunset” in January 2027.

The development team behind Rainbow Six Mobile will transition to other long-term strategic projects, according to Ubisoft.

In a statement on the game’s official site, Ubisoft expressed, “There’s no easy way to put it: we have made the difficult decision to sunset Rainbow Six Mobile. The game will remain available until January 15, 2027, and the next season will be released as planned next week.”

Rainbow Six Mobile entered beta in September 2022 and gradually expanded to various regions over the following years, with its international launch for Android and iOS occurring in February 2026. Initially announced in 2022, the game was described as a mobile adaptation of the full version of Rainbow Six Siege, designed specifically for touchscreen devices.

The developers emphasized that while the core gameplay, characters, and maps would resemble Siege, they rebuilt the game from the ground up to enhance mobile usability. This included a new control system tailored for mobile and significant optimization of the user interface and visual presentation.

The goal of the free-to-play Rainbow Six Mobile was not to replace PC or console gaming but to offer a way to enjoy the game in shorter, more accessible sessions, while also welcoming new players to the Rainbow Six experience. Creative director Justin Swan noted that the mobile version aimed to “evolve very much into its own thing.”

The original Rainbow Six Siege launched in December 2015 and has since amassed over 70 million registered players. Its popularity endures, consistently ranking among the most-played games on Steam. Ubisoft also released a spinoff, Rainbow Six Extraction, in January 2022, which received mixed reviews. Another spinoff, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Tactics, is set to launch in 2027.

Rainbow Six Siege is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
